My Favorite Rap Resources
For all my rap fans out there, I know you know who DJ Akademiks is. He’s famous for his Instagram and YouTube pages and the popularity landed him on Complex’s new show, Everyday Struggle. Ak is famous for spicing up rap beefs and was good friends with 6ix9ine, at least before he ratted. He is my number one go to for any rap info I might need. For those of you who know his platform, you know he’s the first to find out anything rap lated. From beefs, to deaths, to leaving record labels, Akademiks has it all.
TMZ
TMZ is a go to for a lot of blogs involving anything having to do with celebrities, if I had to guess. For me, I like how TMZ catches people in random places, like airports or on the street, rather than a structured interview. Like I said about DJ Akademiks, TMZ is always first to the jump with all things celebrity, including rappers. It is a toss up for who’s quicker, but both are reliable resources and where I get most of my information about the rappers I follow and the industry in general.
DJ VLAD
Unlike DJ Akademiks, Vlad doesn’t really focus too much on the social media approach, but his lengthy interviews are all really informative. It’s been argued that Vlad has interviewed every big time rapper and each interview is almost over an hour long. His approach has gained him millions of followers and he’s arguably the best interviewer in the rap game. Some people aren’t crazy about him because they think some of his questions are too deep and could incriminate some people (which I kind of agree with). However, he’s one of the most credible sources in rap.
SayCheeseTV is heavily involved on Instagram and YouTube. With 822K followers on Instagram, they try to cover all aspects of rap, but mostly up and coming underground artists. A lot of people hold a grudge against SayCheese because they post too much and the argument is always that they’re posting too much about people that no one knows. I disagree, how else are these underground artists supposed to get recognized? Clearly they’re doing something right with all of these followers.
