The Underdog City
Philly is well known as an underdog in the world of Hip Hop. As a city, Philly is known to be tough and gritty, but not necessarily known for its presence in the rap game. That being said, musicians like Lil Uzi, Meek Mill, and PnB Rock have really put Philly on the map in recent years, but the side of Philly that people don’t see is its underground artists. Some are starting to emerge from the underground scene, but it is a tough city to break out of musically.
2019 was a year of anticipation for Philly rap fans. We got some teasers from PnB and Meek, but the biggest talk of the rap scene was Lil Uzi’s album, Eternal Atake. Uzi dropped hints of when the drop date was, but it never dropped. That being said, it was a year of anticipation for the less mainstream/underground Philly rap scene, with emerging artists like Reco Havoc dropping teasers left and right, but never dropping anything. What do you guys think about the state of Philly rap? Let us know in the comments.
